Mozart's Requiem Mass

All Souls Day Mass, Sunday, November 2nd, 2025

ree

At St. John Cantius our annual All Souls’ Day Mozart Requiem Mass draws young and old, Catholics and non-Catholics alike to experience one of the most profound pieces of music ever written. The eloquent music makes present an image of the judgment and the mercy of God.

This year, as we have for 30 years, we are so blessed to present Mozart’s Requiem in D minor, K. 626 in the context of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It will be a solemn occasion of prayer for the faithful departed and a moment of great beauty where sacred music and liturgy meet to lift our hearts and minds to God.

The Requiem will be offered on All Souls’ Day, at 5:00 pm which this year is observed on a Sunday according to the current liturgical calendar of the Roman Church. This provides a unique grace: the faithful will be able to participate in this moving liturgy for the souls of the departed while also fulfilling the Sunday obligation.

Although, the Mozart Requiem Mass will not be offered in the 1962 Missal, but rather according to the current Roman Missal, this opportunity allows us to have the liturgy on Sunday itself, in harmony with the wider Church calendar, while still maintaining the solemn beauty of the Requiem setting.
