Canons Still Growing 25 Years Later

This August 15th marks the Feast of the Assumption, and it begins the year of celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius which was founded by Fr. C. Frank Phillips, C.R. with the approval of Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., and with the approval of the Congregation of the Resurrection. Then, only four members made up the Canons. Today, more than 30 priests and brothers have pledged their lives to the mission of restoring the sacred in everything and in everyone.

This year the Canons welcomed several new postulants and two new priests. As the Canons begin their year of celebration for its 25th anniversary, Br. Kevin Mendard, SJC will profess his Perpetual vows of, poverty, chastity and obedience.

Br. Kevin will lay prostrate before the altar covered with the black funeral shroud—which symbolizes death to the world—as his fellow Canons chant the Litany of the Saints. He then will rise to new life as a fully professed member of the Canons Regular.

All are invited to attend the Solemn Vespers and Vow ceremony

which begins at 4:30 pm.

Please keep Br. Kevin in your prayers as he prepares for Perpetual Vows as well as the other members of the Canons. We are thankful to God for His Providence which brought these men to serve the Church through the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius.
