The New Season of Sacred Music has Begun!

Under the direction of Massimo Scapin, the 2021-2022 sacred music season for St. John Cantius Church has begun! We are grateful to our Director of Liturgical Music, Mr. Scapin who is a renowned Italian conductor of both opera and the symphonic repertoire, a composer, and a pianist. Our many parish choirs, accompanied by our organist, Corrado Cavalli, make an offering of their talents to lend proper reverence to the sacred liturgy

At St. John Cantius Church one will encounter sacred music as an integral part of the solemn liturgy. Gregorian chant plays a key role in divine worship. In addition our choirs and orchestra offer works by many classical sacred music composers including Palestrina, Victoria, Handle, Bach, Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven. One can also hear modern choral works that are consistent with Roman Catholic tradition.

Except when otherwise indicated, Gregorian Chant propers and ordinaries of the Mass are sung every Sunday at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. according to the 2002 Missale Romanum, and the 12:30 p.m. according to the 1962 Missale Romanum. Music is sung by the parish choirs and in Latin unless otherwise noted.

Our several choirs enhance our offering of Divine Worship with sacred music from the Renaissance era, the Viennese choral tradition, and modern choral works that are consistent with Roman Catholic tradition. Learn more about our Choirs here.
