“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
- Matthew 11:29
“There is in the Sacred Heart the symbol and express image of the infinite love of Jesus Christ which moves us to love in return.” says Pope Leo XIII, and the Church has deemed that we ought to recognize that infinite love by our own small acts of love, penance, and reparation. The First Friday devotion is one of these comparatively small acts.
It was revealed to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque by Our Lord that He desires the faithful to be devoted most sincerely to His Sacred Heart. Those who make nine First Friday communions, He told her, will receive the grace of final perseverance, die in His grace, and receive the Sacraments before their death.
Join us for a special Tridentine Low Mass every First Friday of the month at 7:30 PM in honor of the Sacred Heart. After Mass, there is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament followed by the chanting of the Litany of the Sacred Heart, Compline and Benediction.
You can also attend our regularly scheduled Masses at 7:00 am and 8:00 am to fulfill the First Friday Devotion.
How to Fulfill the First Friday Devotion:
Receive communion on the first Friday of the month, either at Mass or otherwise, for nine consecutive months.
Around the time of each reception, go to confession with the intention of fulfilling this devotion. Though it is ideal to go on the same day as communion, theologians often say one can go anytime up to two weeks from the time of reception.
Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father. Usually this is done with one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
