Christmas 2023
Dear Friends,
“I have come that they may have Life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10)
Jesus was born to give us Life. His birth on Christmas changed everything. His Incarnation opened the way for the gift of Eternal Life.
That Life comes to us especially through the Sacraments of the Church, which are an extension of the Incarnation and a tangible presence of God’s Life among us. “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have touched, this is the Word of life.” (1 John 1:1)
We have experienced that same abundant Life at our parish over these past 130 years. The gates of Eternal Life have been opened for countless souls through the Sacrament of Baptism. That Life is deepened and celebrated in Marriages, the Life of Grace is restored through the Confession and strengthened in Holy Communion.
The Priests and Brothers of the Canons Regular have also experienced that abundant Life over these 25 years of our community, especially through the new Life of religious vocations and the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
The graces of new Life come in many ways. It also comes through the gift of a new Pastor in the life of our parish. On Sunday December 31st, Fr. David Yallaly, SJC, will be installed as Pastor of St. John Cantius, dedicated to bringing that Life of grace to souls like the 20 Pastors before him.
So as you celebrate Christmas, celebrate the abundant Life that is yours today because of the birth of that Christ child in the manger. Take advantage of the grace that is available to you through the Liturgies in these Sacred Days. We invite you to join us for Christmas Masses and Devotions whether in person or through livestream.
Thank you for your generosity which helps us continue to serve our city and beyond. May Our Infant Lord bless you and your loved ones this Christmas.
Sincerely in Him,
