Columbian Squires

Youth & Young Adults

St. John Cantius is blessed to have many teens and young adults. One of the special activities that mark the year for our young people include the annual Pro-Life March.

The youth and young adults of St. John Cantius travel by bus to Washington, D.C. in January of each year for the annual Pro-Life March, and make a pilgrimage of reparation to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Other activities for the young people have included a yearly ski trip to provide our youth and young adults with an opportunity for Christian fellowship. Additionally, our Choir of the Holy Innocents sponsor an annual Christmas party and sing-a-long for the families of the parish, including a pot-luck dinner.

At various times of the year, the families of the parish are invited to come to Lawton, Michigan to the St. Anne’s Chapel.  This family-day is a great opportunity for our families to socialize and recreate. The family-day includes Mass, Rosary, Benediction, Confessions, as well as a picnic lunch.

During various times of the liturgical year the young people sponsor all night Eucharistic adoration, which includes Mass, Confessions, Benediction, and spiritual talks.

The Columbian Squires, associated with the Knights of Columbus, is an organization for young men, between the ages of 10-18. The Columbian Squires meet monthly to plan parish and community projects. The Squires have helped run a Pancake Breakfast, and have volunteered at the Chicago Women’s Center.  For information on the Columbian Squires, pleae contact

The Don Bosco Boys’ Camp, held during the summer months, is open to the young men of the parish interested to participate in physical recreation, receive catechetical instruction, and grow in their human and social development. These camps, held several times throughout the summer, are an excellent way to foster manly virtues under the patronage of St. John Bosco.
