Feb. 26, 2015

Festival of Forgiveness, Confession, Penance

Don’t need Confession?
The Church is open for adoration and prayer.
Come and pray with us!

Saint John Cantius Church has always been known for hearing numerous Confessions, having as much as 500 Confessions every week. Now the parish is privileged to participate in the Archdiocese of Chicago’s ‘Festival of Forgiveness’ which will offer 24 hours of Confessions at 24 churches throughout Chicago.

Across two days the Church in Chicago will offer special opportunities for the celebration of the Sacrament of Penance. The Catholic faithful, especially those who have been away from the sacraments, are urgently invited to come and share in God’s mercy. From noon on Friday, February 27, to noon on February 28, confessions will be available at 24 parishes in Chicago for 24 hours. Click here to see all 24 locations »

This focused time to encounter the mercy of God in our lives is inspired by Pope Francis who called the Church in Rome to a “Festival of Forgiveness,” an annual Lenten observance to embrace God’s mercy. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, we join our Holy Father and local churches throughout the world in their observance of this graced opportunity.

Don’t be afraid to go to the Sacrament of Confession, where you will meet Jesus who forgives you. —Pope Francis
