Hundreds of parishioners, visitors, and friends attended the Christmas Midnight Mass at St. John Cantius this year. At 11 pm the Resurrection Choir and Orchestra performed Messiah (excerpts from the Christmas Section) by George Frederick Handel as well as other Christmas Carol Favorites. Resurrection Choir. This was followed at 12am by the Pontifical High Mass in the Extraordinary Form celebrated by His Excellency Joseph N. Perry, auxilary Bishop of Chicago. The choir sang the Missa Sancti Nicolai by Franz Joseph Haydn as well as the Proprium Nativitate arranged by our own Rev. Scott A. Haynes, SJC.
Voices uplifted in song, the spirit uplifted with tradition and reverence. Blending Scripture readings and Sacred Music, this century-old tradition has become a cherished event not only for our church, but for the people of Chicago. Hundreds joined Bishop Joseph N. Perry, and Pastor Father C. Frank Phillips, C.R. for our annual Lessons and Carols on December 10, 2011.
Christmas Carol Sing-a-long with Jolly Old St. Nick
Parishioners and friends gathered on Saturday, December 17th, 2011 for our first annual Christmas Carol Sing-a-long with Jolly Old St. Nick. It was an oppurtunity to enjoy favorite favorite secular Christmas Carols, like Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells and much more. These delightful carols were accompanied by our newly installed Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ on the stage in our church hall (lower level).
