About the Performing Artist




Gail Archer is an international concert organist, recording artist, choral conductor and lecturer who draws attention to composer anniversaries or musical themes with her annual recital series including Max Reger, The Muse’s Voice, An American Idyll, Liszt, Bach, Mendelssohn and Messiaen. Ms. Archer was the first American woman to play the complete works of Olivier Messiaen for the centennial of the composer’s birth in 2008; Time Out New York recognized the Messiaen cycle as “Best of 2008” of classical music and opera.



Her recordings include her September, 2017 CD A Russian Journey, The Muse’s Voice, Franz Liszt: A Hungarian Rhapsody, Bach: The Transcendent Genius, An American Idyll, A Mystic In the Making (Meyer Media), and The Orpheus of Amsterdam: Sweelinck and his Pupils (CALA Records).Ms. Archer’s, 2017 European tour took her to Germany, Italy, the British Isles, Russia, Ukraine and Poland. Highlights include St. Nicholas Church, Stuttgart, Germany, Church of San Domenico, Palermo, Sicily, Dunblane Cathedral, Dunblane, Scotland, The Methodist Central Hall, London, England, the Temple of the Renaissance, Bryansk, Russia, the Philharmonic Hall, Khmelnytsky, Ukraine and the Basilika Mariaska, Gdansk, Poland.



She is the founder of Musforum, http://www.musforum.org an international network for women organists to promote and affirm their work. Ms. Archer is college organist at Vassar College, and director of the music program at Barnard College, Columbia University, where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus, and is a member of the faculty of the Harriman Institute, Columbia University. She serves as director of the artist and young organ artist recitals at historic Central Synagogue, New York City.

Andrzej Białko, Organ Recital

Born in Kraków in 1959, Andrzej Białko studied piano at the Musical Secondary School. In 1973, he began learning to play the organ, first privately and then at the Academy of Music in Kraków under the supervision of Professor Joachim Grubich. In 1981 he received the first prize in the International Organ Competition in Rome, Italy. In 1985, he was awarded first prize in the framework of the National Organ Competition in Bydgoszcz-Gdańsk.

Białko has taken part in many Polish organ festivals and has also performed in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Lebanon and in both North and South America. He has been active as a teacher as the professor of the Organ Department at the Academy of Music in Kraków and the Władysław Żeleński State School of Music in Kraków. He collaborates with numerous music ensembles including Krakow Philharmonic and National Philharmonic in Warsaw.

About the Performing Artist




Composer, performer, and educator Josh Ring is currently a graduate student at the University of Iowa. Studying organ with Gregory Hand, Josh is a recipient of a Rahn and Frawley Organ Fellowship from the UI School of Music. He is the first place winner of the 2018 Young Organists Scholarship Competition, a national competition through the Fox Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He has performed in the Netherlands, Brazil, and across the US, and has performed in masterclasses with such international artists as Olivier Latry, Nathan Laube, Stefan Engels, and Wilma Jensen.

Josh earned his Master’s of Music in Composition with David Maki and his Performer’s Certificate in Organ with James Russell Brown, both from Northern Illinois University with a 4.0 GPA. He also received his Bachelor’s of Music, summa cum laude, from Olivet Nazarene University in Music Composition and Piano Performance.

While at Olivet he was the recipient of the 2012 Walter B. Larsen Award & Naomi Larsen Scholarship, which is awarded to the most outstanding music student from the ONU School of Music. The accolade requires excellent musicianship, exceptional character and attitude, and high commitment to ONU. He is also a 2016 recipient of the E. Power Biggs Fellowship Award from the Organ Historical Society and a 2016, 2017, & 2018 recipient of Kay Hotchkiss Scholarship from the Rockford Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Josh enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring the outdoors, and backpacking in the mountains.

Know anyone who is interested in studying the Catholic Faith? RCIA classes begin in September at St. John Cantius.

This class is offered for adults in three situations:

  1. Un-baptized adults who desire to be baptized in the Catholic Church;

  2. Baptized non-Catholic Christians who desire to be formally admitted into communion with the Catholic Church;

  3. Baptized Catholics who have not yet been confirmed and desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. John Cantius Church.


The class meets every Saturday evening beginning in September in the Church Library from 5:00-6:00 pm pm and is taught this coming year by Brother Nathan Ford, SJC.

Adult baptism takes place at the Easter Vigil at 10:00 p.m.
