Deo Gratias Holy Hour and Midnight Mass

Details:
Dec. 31, 11:00 pm  -  Octave of Christmas
Join us at 11 pm for a Holy Hour (Deo Gratias Service) and for 12 am Midnight Mass.
Why not spend the last hour of 2018 with our Eucharistic King? Join us in the singing of the Te Deum as we ring in the New Year. A Latin High Mass with choir follows at midnight (fulfills the obligation for the January 1 Holy Day).

cantius eucharist

During the Deo Gratias service the names of those who were married, baptized, or buried at the parish are read as we thank God for the year and ask graces for the New Year. This Eucharistic Holy Hour of thanksgiving includes the chanting of Matins and the Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

At the conclusion of the Holy Hour we chant the solemn “Te Deum,” the church’s Hymn of Thanksgiving, for which we can receive a plenary indulgence.

The “Deo Gratias” Service is followed by the Tridentine Latin High Mass for the Feast of the Circumcision of our Lord, which is also the Octave Day of Christmas, and a Holy Day of Obligation. The Mass begins at 12 o’clock Midnight and fulfills the holy day obligation.

Rorate Mass for Advent

Mass of Our Lady in Advent

Details:
Dec. 15, 6:00 am
The Rorate Mass is a Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin in Advent. It is also known as the “Golden Mass” Join us and see why this is known as the Golden Mass. A Latin High Mass with Gregorian Chant (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at Mary's Altar on December 15th at 6:00 am. The regular 8:30 am Mass will still be celebrated.

The Rorate Mass takes its name from the first word of its introit (entrance song): “Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum,” or “Drop down dew, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness.” It is a Mass in honor of Mary in which the interplay of light and darkness convey the meaning of Advent. As the Mass proceeds and sunrise approaches, the church becomes progressively brighter. The Mass is usually celebrated by candlelight.
