It is time to register for St. John Cantius’ springs classes. Unless otherwise specified below, classes start February 5, 2017, and end May 28, 2017. All classes meet on Sundays. The cost is $50.00 for the class and $50.00 for the textbook. You have always wanted a deeper appreciation of our Church’s languages and heritage. Now is your chance to begin or to continue your study of the language and history of the Church. All classes meet in the Canonry at 1025 W. Fry St., Chicago, IL. Enter the building from the south door between the Canonry and the Church.

BASIC ITALIAN 101: Instructor - Gianluca Butticè

For the beginner with about one semester of Italian.  This course is an introduction to the language and culture of Italy, the first of three-classes beginning Italian sequence.  Focus is on the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and the study of Italian culture through language.  Class activity will consist mainly of interactive oral exercises based on material in the textbook, online, and from other sources. 

The course aims to provide students with basic functional skills in Italian.  Italian 101 focuses on introducing and talking about oneself (interests, occupation, leisure activities, likes, dislikes), ordering in a cafe and restaurant, addressing others formally or informally, and everyday life.  By the end of the beginning Italian sequence, students should be able to engage in basic conversation on a variety of topics, write simple paragraphs, and read passages in contemporary Italian.  Textbooks will be I Verbi Italiani; New Italian Espresso Textbook and DVD; and New Italian Espresso Workbook. BASIC ITALIAN 102: Instructor - Gianluca Butticè

This course is an introduction to the language and culture of Italy, the second of the three classes beginning Italian sequence. Focus is on the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and the study of Italian culture through language.  Class activity will consist mainly of interactive oral exercises based on material in the textbook, online, and from other sources. 

The course aims to provide students with basic functional skills in Italian. Italian 102 focuses on talking about social network (e.g. family, friends, colleagues), food and dishes, lifestyle and daily routine, planning and managing a trip, communicating past events or activities.  By the end of the beginning Italian sequence, students should be able to engage in basic conversation on a variety of topics, write simple paragraphs, and read passages in contemporary Italian.  Textbooks will be I Verbi Italiani; New Italian Espresso Textbook and DVD; and New Italian Espresso Workbook.
