Religious Education Program 2007-2008

The St. John Cantius Parish Religious Education Program serves both families who provide formal catechesis at home for their children, as well as those families requesting classes given at St. John Cantius.

The program consists of classes for children preparing to receive the Sacraments of First Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Additional classes on various aspects of the Faith are offered for grade school and high school students. For home-educators, guidance and material suggestions are given for home use as well as an invitation to participate in special events. Classes for adults provide opportunities for lifelong Catholics to deepen their knowledge of the Faith, as well as instruction in Faith for those wishing to convert to Catholicism.

Teaching students to be a part of their rich Catholic heritage is also an important aspect of catechesis at St. John Cantius Parish. Instruction in Gregorian Chant, along with exposure to sacred music, sacred art, and the beautiful and solemn liturgical celebrations throughout the Church year are offered as enrichment to students and parents.

Classes will meet on Sunday mornings beginning on October 7, 2007, and ending on March 9, 2008. All classes will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 10:55 a.m. Only two unexcused absences will be allowed before dismissal from the program.

The first class for all students on October 7th will meet in the Church at 10:00 a.m.

Parents are strongly encouraged to enroll their children in the sacramental preparation classes at St. John’s. Due to the growing number of students the most efficient way to serve all our families is by attending the classes. If independent study is chosen the same requirements to determine readiness for receiving the sacraments will apply to all students.

All children preparing to receive the sacraments, whether attending classes at St. John’s or at home, must be registered in the program.

Registration will take place after all Masses on September 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Registration closes on September 30, 2007. No students will be admitted to the program after this date.

Program fee for registered parishioners is $45 per family and is paid at registration.

Program fee for non-parishioners is $125 per family and is paid at registration.

Books are included in the registration fee for all classes except the high school class. There is a $20 book fee for the high school class.
