CCD – Religious Education

Religious Education Program 2009-2010

The sacramental preparation and religious education classes are open to all registered parishioners. Classes will meet on Sunday morning beginning on October 4, 2009 ending on March 21, 2010.  All classes will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 10:55 a.m.  Only two unexcused absences will be allowed before dismissal from the program.

Parents are strongly encouraged to enroll their children in the sacramental preparation classes at St. John’s.  Due to the growing number of students the most efficient way to serve all our families is by attending the classes.  If independent study is chosen the same requirements to determine readiness for receiving the sacraments will apply to all students.

St. John Cantius recognizes and respects the primary role of the parents in the education of their own children.  The means used for this education fall within the prerogative of the parents. However, the administration of the sacraments is the responsibility of the pastor.

Archdiocesan policy states that “The pastor or his designate shall determine the readiness of children in light of their disposition and preparation prior to the first reception of the sacraments” (canons 777 and 914) Therefore it is not permissible to present your child for any of these sacraments unless and until the child has been determined ready by the pastor.

All children preparing to receive the sacraments, whether attending classes at St. John’s or at home, must be registered in the program.

• The first class for all students and parents on October 4th will meet in the Church at 10 am.
